Staff Correspondent: A new Executive Committee has been formed for Nikunja Tanpara Kallyan Society, one of the oldest and most prominent social welfare organizations in Nikunja Tanpara under Khilkhet, Dhaka. In the newly constituted committee, Jahid Ikbal has been elected President, while Mohammad Touhiduzzaman Sarkar (Saikat Sarkar) has been elected General Secretary.
The other office-bearers are Md. Misbah Uddin as Vice President, Md. Mukul Hossain Mridha as Joint Secretary, A.M. Aiyub as Organizing Secretary, Md. Matiur Rahman Swapan as Treasurer, Amir Hossain as Publicity Secretary, Md. Atikur Rahman Khan as Office Secretary, and Mohammad Nurul Amin Majumdar as Sports Secretary.
The Executive Members are Emdadul Haque Sohel, Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, Md. Lito Ahmed, Md. Mostafa Sikder, Jisad Ikbal, Jahidul Haque Jewel, Md. Altaf Hossain, and Tasbir Ikbal.
Established in 1997 and registered with the Department of Social Services (Registration No. S-14887), Nikunja Tanpara Kallyan Society has been serving the local community for nearly three decades. Throughout its journey, the organization has earned the trust and confidence of residents through its unwavering commitment to social welfare and civic development.
The society has played a leading role in promoting citizens’ rights and addressing a wide range of community issues. In recent years, it has undertaken several landmark initiatives, including coordinating with the authorities to regulate battery-operated auto-rickshaws, leading campaigns to address waterlogging in collaboration with the Dhaka North City Corporation and other relevant agencies, advocating for the cleaning of drainage canals and outflow systems, promoting the removal of illegal structures and road encroachments, supervising drain and manhole cleaning, improving street lighting, monitoring mosquito control programmes, and supporting environmental cleanliness across the locality.
Beyond civic initiatives, the organization has actively stood beside residents during natural disasters and heavy rainfall, distributed winter clothing and iftar essentials among underprivileged families, promoted health awareness programmes, supported sports and cultural activities, and carried out various humanitarian and voluntary initiatives for the welfare of the community.
Speaking after his election, President Jahid Ikbal said, “Our vision is to transform Nikunja Tanpara into a clean, safe, waterlogging-free, traffic-friendly and modern residential neighbourhood. With the support and participation of local residents, we will continue working for the greater public interest while strengthening the progress achieved over the years.”
General Secretary Mohammad Touhiduzzaman Sarkar (Saikat Sarkar) said, “This committee belongs to the people of Nikunja Tanpara, not to any individual or group. Through collective participation, transparency and cooperation, we are committed to building a more united, secure and livable community.”
Local residents believe that Nikunja Tanpara Kallyan Society has grown beyond a conventional social organization to become a strong platform for civic engagement, community unity and sustainable development. Its consistent leadership in public welfare initiatives and civic movements has reinforced public confidence and inspired greater community participation.
Residents also expressed optimism that under the new leadership, the organization will continue to play an even more effective role in social welfare, civic rights, environmental protection, infrastructure development and humanitarian services. They extended their heartfelt congratulations to the newly elected committee and expressed hope that it would lead Nikunja Tanpara towards becoming an ideal, clean, safe and truly livable residential community.
