Apple says updates can prevent new cellular failures affecting AT&T iPhone<\/a> 18 Pro Max users, but they will not restore service on devices that have already lost their connection. The company is directing owners of affected phones to seek a hardware replacement.<\/p>\n

Apple told 9to5Mac that a \u201csmall number\u201d of iPhone 18 Pro Max users on AT&T may lose cellular service and become unable to make calls. The company did not give a device count or explain what causes the failure. It said iOS 27.0.1 and a carrier-settings update are intended to stop additional cases.<\/p>\n

Apple released iOS 27.0.1 earlier this week and is urging all iPhone 18 Pro Max owners to install it. The separate AT&T carrier-settings update is being issued to users and should arrive automatically over as many as 14 days, Apple said. Owners can also check for it under Settings, General and About.<\/p>\n

The software and carrier updates are preventive, not a repair for a phone already without service. Apple said the updates will not reconnect an affected device. The company advises those users to contact Apple Support or AT&T, or visit an Apple Store or AT&T location to arrange a hardware replacement.<\/p>\n

AT&T has also contacted affected customers. Tom\u2019s Guide reported that the carrier sent a text urging them to install iOS 27.0.1, and an AT&T spokesperson confirmed the message to the publication. The text warned that some phones might not complete calls, texts or data sessions, including calls to 911.<\/p>\n

The statements do not suggest that all AT&T customers with an iPhone 18 Pro Max are affected. Apple described the issue as limited to a small number of users. Neither Apple\u2019s statement nor the carrier\u2019s comments cited by the publications provide a technical cause or a total number of affected phones.<\/p>\n

For owners whose phones still connect, Apple\u2019s immediate guidance is to update iOS and check for the carrier-settings update. If service has already disappeared, the update should not be expected to bring it back. Apple\u2019s advice is to contact the carrier or Apple support about a replacement.<\/p>\n
