Kodiak Sciences Phase 3 results from the DAYBREAK study have moved a key retinal drug candidate toward a planned regulatory filing later this year. The biotechnology<\/a> company reported on Sept. 28 that two investigational treatments met their primary endpoints in a study involving wet age-related macular degeneration, or wAMD.<\/p>\n

The company said Zenkuda, also known as tarcocimab tedromer, and tabirafusp-ted met the study\u2019s vision endpoint against aflibercept, an established treatment used as the comparator. Kodiak described the outcome as non-inferiority at one year. The announcement is a development milestone, not an approval: Kodiak\u2019s site states that its drug candidates remain investigational and have not been approved in any country.<\/p>\n

For Zenkuda, the company said 54% of patients reached a six-month dosing interval at the one-year mark under the study\u2019s treat-to-dryness approach. The method uses signs of retinal fluid to guide retreatment. That result is central to the company\u2019s commercial case because a longer interval between injections could be a differentiating feature if regulators eventually authorize the drug. It remains a trial finding, not a promise of how every patient would be treated in routine care.<\/p>\n

Tabirafusp-ted, which Kodiak also calls KSI-501, met the vision primary endpoint and an anatomical key secondary endpoint, the company said. Kodiak reported p-values of 0.0036 and less than 0.0001, respectively. The company plans additional analyses to examine whether particular patient groups may benefit from the treatment\u2019s approach, but it has not said those exploratory analyses establish a treatment advantage for a defined subgroup.<\/p>\n

The next business milestone is a biologics license application for Zenkuda. Kodiak said it plans to submit the application in the fourth quarter of 2026 and include results from five Phase 3 studies covering wAMD, diabetic retinopathy and macular edema following retinal vein occlusion. That filing has not yet been made. The company\u2019s own release cautions that completed trials may not be sufficient for approval and that regulators may not accept or approve an application on the expected timeline.<\/p>\n

The second drug follows a separate development path. Kodiak said tabirafusp-ted is being tested in the Phase 3 ALTO study for diabetic macular edema, while it expects another Phase 3 readout for KSI-101 in December. These programs could broaden the company\u2019s late-stage portfolio, but each still depends on trial results and regulatory review.<\/p>\n

RTTNews\u2019 Sept. 28 report also noted the planned Zenkuda filing and the DAYBREAK endpoint results. The report reinforces the immediate investor focus: Kodiak is trying to turn a positive late-stage data point into a regulatory submission, while keeping other candidates in development. The company remains precommercial, so the study does not by itself establish future revenue, approval or launch timing.<\/p>\n

For the business, the update creates a near-term test of execution. Kodiak must assemble the planned submission, present full trial data and wait for regulators to decide whether the evidence supports a license. Until those steps occur, the company\u2019s announcement describes a potential path to market rather than a confirmed product launch.<\/p>\n
