Valve has opened reservations for Steam<\/a> Frame, a wireless virtual-reality headset designed to work as both a PC-connected device and a standalone gaming system. The company lists a starting price of $1,059 for the 256GB model and $1,299 for the 1TB model.<\/p>\n

Valve\u2019s announcement says Steam Frame is built around wireless play and access to a Steam library. It can stream from a PC, Steam Deck, Steam Machine or laptop<\/a>, while a smaller group of games is already marked as Steam Frame Standalone Verified.<\/p>\n

The headset is sold with controllers. Valve also lists an ergonomic accessories kit and a separate 45W power supply. Those items are optional purchases rather than standard parts of the basic package, according to the Steam Hardware announcement.<\/p>\n

Valve used a reservation system rather than opening an unrestricted checkout. Signups closed on September 17 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time, and the company said it would randomize the order for the first reservation group. The first purchase emails were scheduled to begin on September 18.<\/p>\n

The official announcement says the first shipping regions include the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the European Union and Australia. Valve also named KOMODO as the distributor for Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong, with South Korea listed as coming soon.<\/p>\n

Geeky Gadgets reported the headline prices and highlighted the product\u2019s 6GHz PC streaming capability. Tom\u2019s Hardware separately reported Valve\u2019s explanation of the two-part strategy: streaming handles the wider library while standalone support gives the headset a route to run selected titles on its own.<\/p>\n

Valve says more than 100 games have already earned the Standalone Verified label, but the library is still growing. That number should not be treated as the total number of Steam titles playable on the headset, because streamed and standalone compatibility are different paths.<\/p>\n

Steam Frame is therefore a hardware launch with a deliberately staged buying process. Customers need to distinguish the reservation price, accessory costs and regional shipping arrangements before treating an invitation or waitlist position as an order.<\/p>\n
