The RBI overnight cash withdrawal auction is scheduled for Sept. 8 as the central bank responds to current liquidity conditions in India\u2019s banking system. A reverse repo operation allows the central bank to absorb money from banks for a set period. In a variable-rate auction, banks submit bids and the final rate is determined through the auction process rather than by one fixed rate announced for every participant.<\/p>\n
The operation is a liquidity-management tool. When the banking system has more cash than banks need for immediate lending or settlement, the central bank can use such operations to influence short-term money-market conditions.<\/p>\n
The RBI said it reached the decision after reviewing current and evolving liquidity conditions. Its notice kept the operating guidelines from an earlier 2020 press release in place for the new auction.<\/p>\n
