The Associated Press reported that President Donald Trump<\/a> said his administration was studying the system and weighing its benefits against concerns about surveillance. Axios reported that Flock has more than 120,000 cameras nationwide, according to the company. The outlet said local opposition has grown in places where residents and officials are questioning retention periods, access rules and whether the cameras are being used for purposes beyond the crimes that originally justified them.<\/p>\n

Flock announced changes to its policies in August, including a shorter standard retention period for captured data. That change addresses one concern but does not settle the larger question of who can search the records, when searches are allowed and how agencies audit requests.<\/p>\n

The debate is moving from technology to governance. Communities considering the cameras must weigh investigative value against privacy, due-process and transparency requirements. The current reporting does not show a single nationwide rule; policies vary by agency, contract and state law.<\/p>\n
