BALTIMORE, May 10, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — According to technology analyst Enrique Abeyta, Elon Musk has just taken one of the boldest steps in artificial intelligence to date\u2014by building a complete AI infrastructure that no longer depends on Big Tech chipmakers or cloud platforms.<\/p>\n
That system is called Dojo.<\/u><\/a><\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s not just a supercomputer,\u201d says Abeyta. \u201cIt\u2019s Musk\u2019s declaration of independence from traditional tech suppliers\u2014and the foundation for a sovereign AI system he controls from end to end.\u201d<\/p>\n Musk\u2019s Breaking Point: Too Much Demand, Too Little Control<\/strong><\/p>\n Dojo was born from necessity. With skyrocketing demand for Nvidia\u2019s chips\u2014and delivery delays that couldn\u2019t meet Tesla\u2019s AI training needs\u2014Musk had to make a move.<\/p>\n \u201cI think this requires that we put a lot more effort on Dojo in order to ensure that we\u2019ve got the training capability that we need,\u201d Musk said.<\/p>\n \u201cI see a path to being competitive with Nvidia with Dojo.\u201d<\/p>\n So he built his own chip.<\/p>\n The result is a processor that\u2019s already six times more powerful than Nvidia\u2019s most popular model<\/u><\/a>\u2014designed specifically for visual AI and neural network training.<\/p>\n AI Without Middlemen<\/strong><\/p>\n According to Abeyta, this is bigger than just efficiency. It\u2019s about control.<\/p>\n \u201cMusk is no longer relying on third parties to supply the intelligence for Tesla\u2019s future,\u201d he says. \u201cThis is what it looks like when a company goes fully autonomous\u2014internally and externally.\u201d<\/p>\n This chip powers Dojo, Tesla\u2019s in-house supercomputer, which currently trains on 160 billion frames of video daily from vehicles across the globe.<\/p>\n \u201cWith the latest software\u2026 Elon Musk\u2019s AI can already drive a car without any help from humans,\u201d Abeyta says.<\/p>\n And the biggest test is coming soon: June 1st, when Musk plans to release the Tesla Robotaxi<\/u><\/a>\u2014a vehicle with no steering wheel, pedals, or human interface.<\/p>\n Beyond Tesla: A Platform for the Nation<\/strong><\/p>\n Abeyta believes this isn\u2019t just about transportation\u2014it\u2019s about building infrastructure that can be used across industries.<\/u><\/a><\/p>\n \u201cDojo applications longer-term can extend beyond the auto industry,\u201d says Morgan Stanley. \u201cIt can lay the foundation for vision-based AI models.\u201d<\/p>\n That includes smart robotics, defense systems, healthcare imaging, logistics, and more.<\/p>\n Musk has already indicated he may open the platform to others:<\/p>\n \u201cDojo has the potential to become a sellable service that we would offer to other companies in the same way that Amazon Web Services offers web services,\u201d Musk noted.<\/p>\n Federal Alignment With Musk\u2019s Vision<\/strong><\/p>\n Enrique also points to government alignment behind this effort.<\/p>\n \u201cPresident Trump just signed an executive order called \u2018Removing Barriers to American AI Innovation,\u2019<\/u><\/a>\u201d Abeyta says.<\/p>\n \u201cHe wants to accelerate the development of AI because he understands it\u2019s a matter of national security.\u201d<\/p>\n The company working with Musk to deliver this chip architecture is already \u201cexpecting to receive billions of dollars from the Trump administration.\u201d<\/p>\n
